Whitney Burton is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance. While in college she had the privilege to perform in many student and faculty works, choreograph, attend American College Dance Festival as well as perform choreography by Merce Cunningham (set by Paige Cunningham) and Liz Burritt. She has also attended workshops such as Joe Goode Dance Theater, and Zephyr Arts Integration Workshop.
Before attending college, Whitney was a Counselor at Broadway Dance Center in New York City the summer of 2004, 2005, and winter of 2004. She was also a recipient of a Broadway Dance Center Scholarship under the direction of Sheila Barker. Her background includes modern, jazz, lyrical, ballet, tap, and poms. She began her training in both dance and gymnastics at Parish School of Performing Arts in Jerseyville, Illinois at the age of five where she was a member of State St. Performing Company. Throughout her time there she competed nationally and achieved awards such as Distinguished Performer, Star Performer, LA talent agent semi-finalist, American Dance Idol finalist, National Entertainer Award, performed in the halftime show at the NFL Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii and performed work by Eddie Garcia at the International Dance Festival in New York City. Throughout all her years of training she has studied at Broadway Dance Center (New York, NY), Steps (New York, NY), Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (New York, NY), the Paul Taylor Studio (New York, NY), Peridance Center (New York, NY), the Merce Cunningham Studio (New York, NY), The Edge (Los Angeles, CA), and Lou Conte (Chicago, IL).
Whitney is currently a junior company member with The Seldoms, a Chicago-based contemporary dance company. As a trained and versatile dancer, choreographer, and teacher she hopes to take her experiences even further by introducing her diverse knowledge and love for dancing and the arts through offering and encouraging a well rounded, comfortable, fun, exciting, inspiring and physical learning environment that will be beneficial to all students at All About Dance. She strongly feels that creativity and exploration in the arts is the key to living and loving each new day.
